Honey

 

Now when it came time to formulate our bar, honey was the natural choice for the main sweetener, not only because it comes off our own canola fields, but because it is also the clean choice. High fructose corn syrup was not going to find its way into our bar, no matter what the cost. Neither were any “fake” sugars. Danger, Danger is what rolls through my head when I see those nasty words...read about the famous and somewhat controversial study done by Nancy Markle who is an anti-aspartame advocate and decide for yourself! Refined sugars have to rob your body of nutrients in order to be digested. That’s why they are called empty calories. Honey has naturally occurring minerals and amino acids, which are needed for it to be metabolized. This helps prevent obesity!

Honey is full of antioxidants, which remove free radicals from the body and act as a natural preservative. Historically it has been used as an energy source and wound-healing agent which, until modern research proved otherwise, were considered to be old wives’ tales.

Honey and Athletes
Ohhhh honey, you can run so fast! Today research is being done to study the ergogenic potential of honey, which is the effect a food ingredient has on athletic performance. Research has shown that it helps maintain blood sugar levels, aids in muscle recuperation, and restores glycogen after a workout. A few great reasons to use nature’s own sweetener.
