Organic Dark Chocolate Chips

Now, we went to every good measure possible to fill our bars with whole foods, raw seeds, nuts, and oats, and with all that good, we figured we had a little room for chocolate!

Why? Because rich dark chocolate is one of the small yet intense pleasures in life for many of us and we thought that if we could inspire you to eat clean and healthy on the go, then why not throw in a little something special? Our dark chocolate chips are completely organic and made from single-origin cocoa beans by special order.

We aren’t going to pretend like chocolate chips are going to prevent all kinds of ailments; in all likelihood they won’t. But what they do manage to do is pretty cool. For one, the high-quality rich dark chocolate is what makes our Cocoa, Hemp & Almond flavour pack a punch. Kids absolutely devour this bar and adults love it because they can indulge in a chocolate snack AND reap the benefits of the Omega-3, fiber, protein, and long-lasting energy at the same time. Awesome!

So while some of our ingredients like flax, hemp, and oats are functional food superstars, this organic dark chocolate chip may not have the same health WOW factor, but it isn’t a one trick pony either. Here are a few pros we dug up about our good friend!

DISCLAIMER!!! Now, we aren't going to get all crazy and tell you that GORP bars can cure every ailment known to man and provide every single health benefit listed below... because that's SO not allowed :) We just want to give a shout out to our awesome ingredients for YOUR education... so you can see all the awesomeness we INTENTIONALLY pack into our bar and perhaps inspire you to incorporate some of them into your diet more often :)

Dark Chocolate Facts and Benefits

  • Chocolate contains more than 500 natural chemical compounds, and some have been found to be responsible for elevating mood and inducing pleasure! Hmmm…happy brain food. Sign us up!
  • Chocolate is one of nature's most concentrated sources of theobromine, a mild natural stimulant related to caffeine. Unlike caffeine, theobromine does not act as extensively on the central nervous system, so it won’t cause the negative impacts associated with its cousin.
  • Chocolate also contains a compound called phenylethylamine, which may be linked to the pleasurable feelings you get after eating it. This is because it releases endorphins, natural “feel good” chemicals in your brain – the very same compound released when we fall in love!
So we choose to love chocolate for its brain-boosting, love-inducing, tasty, feel-good qualities. Just remember when to call it a day, that’s all!
