NEWS FLASH - Bloating is NOT hot! Find out why GORP Bars don't cause bloating.

gorp bar not bloating

You know what we're talking about... that terrible feeling after you eat a meal (either too much of one, or the wrong kind) or protein bar and your stomach just expands. You might need to unbutton your pants. Your gut feels heavy. And you feel FULL. And uncomfortable.... sigh...

We hear you, we've been there. If you haven't heard the story of how GORP bars were created, you missed the part about all of the protein bars tried and thrown away due to the terrible after-feeling and weird aftertastes... was that... metal??

Since I started working here, I've never talked about bloating so much in my life! Or perhaps more about the lack of bloating. ...Ok, get to the point, I feel bloated right now thinking about it.... If you've ever eaten a GORP bar, you'll notice a wonderful feeling during digestion; the feeling of being satisfied of hunger, but NOT bloated. We've had so many people tell us (including some of our own Winnipeg Jets!) that they can eat our protein bar without feeling heavy, tired or have an upset stomach afterwards. On top of that, the feeling remains, giving a long lasting energy release.

But what IS this magic? Why are GORP bars different from other protein bars?

There are a few reasons why you can eat these bars during a marathon, or OCR, or during a hockey game and still feel light on your feet.

1. SPROUTED BROWN RICE PROTEIN

This is our magic ingredient! This plant based protein has NO weird (metal) aftertaste, no weird texture in the bar, is hypo-allergenic and won't cause bloating (Mind. Blown.) This low heat processed protein source from brown rice, is enzymatically extracted from multiple layers of the whole grain versus the more typical rice protein which is hexane-extracted from only the bran layer. This protein has a complete amino acid profile and is really the best plant based protein we could find! And it was clearly a good choice, because we hear about it from our customers and athletes. Get your protein in with GORP's 11 grams per bar!

2. OATS

Whole grains are often recommended for their beneficial effects on the gastrointestinal tract. Researchers suggest potential health effects ranging from improved immune health to reducing risk for obesity and chronic disease (IBS). Keep those intestines taken care of and kick that bloat to the curb!

Oats play an important role in improving satiety, diet quality and digestive, cardiovascular and general metabolic health. There are SO many health benefits to oats, simply Google them!

3. High Source of Fibre

Insoluble fibre absorbs water, swelling in size considerably, adding bulk and softening the contents of the gastrointestinal tract. This slows the process of eating, helping you feel fuller sooner, satisfied for longer and better able to control your appetite. Good sources include whole grains, bran, seeds, leaves (kale, cabbage) and roots (carrots, beets etc). The slower you eat, the less bloated you feel! Get your fibre in with GORP's 6 grams per bar!

Intestinal Health is the new black - it's super HOT to take care of your intestines! If there's any take away from this, it's that bloating isn't fun and you have amazing food to eat if you don't want to feel a brick in your stomach. We've got your back (or your guts? Is that weird?) here at GORP Clean Energy Bar!

Now go Adventure On with your new found knowledge of why NOT bloating is totally hot!

Zig while others are Zagging

November 30, 2019

Not every “zig” in the face of a “zag” has worked out for me, (I’ve made some very expensive mistakes), but I agree with the idea that if you follow the MASSES sometimes the “M” is silent! And that brings you further away from YOU.
